Amy Flynn - Principal
Miss Amy has been dancing, singing and acting since the age of 3, attending Janet Marshall Dance Studios and taking part in numerous amateur theatre productions until the age of 18, when she moved to Chiswick with a 3 year Dance and Drama Award Scholarship to attend Arts Educational School of Musical Theatre and gain her degree in Musical Theatre.
On the course, she was involved in performances of 'Pippin', 'Westside Story’, 'The Diary of Anne Frank' and 'Patience'. In her third year, Miss Amy was in the production of 'The Pirates of Penzance' as one of the Generals' daughters and in 'The Secret Garden' as the understudy for Lily and a member of the ensemble. In her showcase, MIss Amy performed at The Criterion Theatre Piccadilly and finished her third year at Arts Ed. playing the lead role of Julie Jordan in 'Carousel'.
She graduated from Arts Ed. on the Musical Theatre Degree Course in 2007, signing with her agent from the ‘BWH Agency’. Miss Amy has performed in 'Sondheim's 75th Birthday Gala' at Drury Lane and work-shopped a new musical based on the story of Florence Nightingale. Miss Amy also took part in the filming of a documentary for the BBC and she was involved as a dancer in the Horse Show Olympia. Miss Amy has worked for ‘UK Productions’ as ensemble and the understudy for Tommy in 'Dick Whittington’.
Miss Amy then moved back to Cheltenham to pursue a career in teaching, gaining her Diploma in Dance Education in Ballet, Tap and Modern with the ISTD at Janet Marshall Dance centre. She has enjoyed working as a freelance dance teacher throughout the Cotswolds for a number of schools. Miss Amy has also worked as a choreographer for many shows to name a few ‘Fame’- Stage Productions ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Oliver’ – Pates Grammar School ‘Movies under the stars’, ‘Midsummer Nights Dream’, ‘Beauty and the Beast' and 'Legends’-Cirencester Creative Dance Academy, and local events such as ‘The Air Tattoo’, fashion shows, village fairs, dance competitions and in 2012 the Jubilee celebrations. Miss Amy displayed her choreography at ‘Young Performers 2012’at Her Majesty's Theatre London West end. Miss Amy also regularly attends teaching courses to continue her professional development.
Miss Amy is delighted to be Principal for ‘Amy Flynn School of Dance’ and is enjoying seeing the school and her pupils grow over the years.
Abigail Whiteley-Pole - Senior Teacher
Miss Abi is an experienced teacher committed to a high quality of teaching and ongoing professional learning. As a long standing, committed member of AFDance and a highly trained and qualified teacher of the ISTD within Modern, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary, Miss Abi is now taking the role of Senior Teacher at AFDance.
Miss Abi started dancing at the age of eight, studying Ballet, Tap, and Modern and Jazz at various schools around Gloucestershire and continued her studies of Contemporary dance at SWADA in Bristol.
Miss Abi graduated from The University of Gloucestershire with a 2:1 BA (HONS) Degree in Performing Arts, giving her the opportunity to train with the Royal Ballet School and Harmonic Dance Company in Paris. Miss Abi has gained her DDE qualification at Janet Marshall’s in Modern and Tap (ISTD) . Miss Abi has been a teacher at other local dance schools in Gloucestershire and views teaching as a rewarding and fulfilling career, she relishes the opportunity to work at Amy Flynn’s School of Dance as a member of staff. She plans to strive for educational excellence by encouraging, influencing and inspiring students to develop their technique, to stretch their imaginations, to help them think creatively and to have fun.
Miss Anya- Teacher
Miss Anya started dancing at the age of three and spent all of her childhood and teenage years dancing and performing.
She has a Level 4 diploma in Dance Teaching specialising in Classical Ballet and a Level 5 certificate in Safe and Effective Dance Practice from Trinity College, London.
She has also attained the ISTD Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) qualification in classical ballet and studied Modern to advanced level.
Miss Anya has nine years’ experience teaching at many schools in the county; teaching the ISTD syllabus in ballet, tap, modern and jazz, taking free classes, pointe work and leading exam coaching sessions.
Miss Sasha - Student teacher and assistant
We are delighted to have Miss Sasha with us as our teaching assistant and student teacher. Miss Sasha is studying her DDE dance teacher qualifications at Janet Marshall dance centre alongside working in a children's nursery and studying towards her level 3 childcare qualification. Miss Sasha is loving her work with AFDance. Miss Sasha is delighted to be taking on some classes at AFDance and loves assisting the students giving them the individual support they need in the classroom environment.
All AFDance teachers are DBS checked, first aid trained, and insured.
